Tamera Mowry-Housley Tells LittleThings Her Parenting ‘Momtras’ And Why Alone Time Matters

Actress, author, producer, and Emmy-winner Tamera Mowry-Housley knows a thing or two about running a busy house while trying to keep your own head afloat. As a mom of two, Tamera says that one way she keeps it all together is by setting out a little time for herself each morning after her husband goes to work and her kids are at school.

During this time, Tamera grounds herself in her "Momtra" for the day, speaking to her goals and the day's focus. Tamera wants to help other moms find their own grounding moment of serenity each day, which is what inspired her to take on her current partnership with belVita.

First things first: Tamera Mowry-Housley is genuinely one of the nicest people you could meet. After I explain that a very loud train goes by my window throughout the day, she reassures me that her hotel room is right next to construction — there's no need to worry about noise impacting our chat.

This creates an immediate and very welcome opportunity to relax a little bit more, something that I and so many other moms don't always give ourselves — which is something Tamera truly understands.

As we chat, I am curious about Tamera's work with belVita and how that ties into her life in general. She says, "I love everything mommy; I love being a mom. Being a mom has changed my life. I had purpose before, but something happens when you have children. My life is not just for me, and I love that belVita is focusing on encouraging and inspiring moms to just take some time to themselves."

More from LittleThings: All Moms Are ‘Real’ Moms On Mother’s Day

With Mother's Day coming up, a lot of families and moms are thinking about how to spend the day. Tamera points out that it's important to prioritize yourself on Mother's Day, but it's just as important to prioritize yourself all the time. You might be thinking "easier said than done," but trust me: We all get that mentality, and we've all been there.

As Tamera puts it, "Trust me: when you do … our days are never going to go perfectly, that doesn't exist, but I just feel like I can take on the day a little bit more. I always say it's not selfish to prioritize yourself: We're just asking for a moment here. It really does go a long way."

Tamera's favorite time of the day to take a little me time is in the morning, which is probably something a lot of parents and moms specifically can agree with. Specifically, the time when "it's just me and my dog, and we're looking at each other like, 'Why does it feel like it's 5 o'clock already?' I don't know what it is, but I always feel like I have run a marathon after the kids go to school."

For Tamera, me time is also coffee time, and right now belVita is making that time a little sweeter for a few lucky moms. If coffee is also your thing, the brand is giving away a fully upgraded coffee bar that includes an espresso maker, coffee maker, coffee cart, and more, and entering the sweepstakes is pretty easy.

Tamera shares that for her, me time is also quiet time. She says, "I just like to sit there and have a moment of silence. To me, that is my me time. That makes me feel good, that makes me feel like, 'Alright, I've reset after that. Let's start this day. Let's do what we do, moms.'"

As for those Momtras, here are a couple of Tamera's favorites that you can try. She shares, "I learned a lot of these from other moms. I've been blessed to be a mom for 10 years, almost 11. One of those Momtras is: Take a moment for yourself."

And when you do, make sure you really, really mean it. Tamera concludes, "Taking care of yourself is taking care of others."
