Raymond and Jennifer McCurdy were a happy couple who had taken on entrepreneurship and found success. The pair had recently moved to Florida from New Jersey to oversee the opening of their new beauty and wellness center.
They had already opened up a few other centers in other cities around the country and they wanted to try their luck in the Florida area. They also wanted to take the opportunity to move to a warmer climate with their 6-year-old daughter Rebecca.
Even though the couple tried for several years to give Rebecca a sibling, she was their only child. Overall, Rebecca was a content little girl, but when she was 3 years old, she suffered a severe urinary tract infection that caused her to stay in the hospital for over a month.
When little Rebecca was finally sent home, the doctors thought everything had cleared up just fine, but it turned out that her severe infection led to a disorder called overactive bladder syndrome. The disorder caused her bladder to suddenly compress and resulted in her needing to urgently use the bathroom several times per day.
When the couple were told by Rebecca’s doctors that it might help their daughter’s condition to live in a warmer climate without fluctuating temperatures, they decided it was the perfect time to expand their business and move to Florida.

According to News4JAX, when Rebecca enrolled in her new school, Belle Terre Elementary School in Palm Coast, Florida, she got off the bus feeling “humiliated and crying” after she had an accident in school and “was forced to ride the bus home in just a shirt and underwear.”
