When a reporter walked up to Ted Cruz with a question about gun background checks, he probably wasn't expecting this kind of response!
The Manchin Toomey bill would have required background checks on all commercial sales of guns. And when it got shot down in the Senate, despite the popular support of around 90% of Americans, many anti-gun advocates were outraged. The reporter walked up to Cruz and asked him why he was so out of step with the American people:
The reporter asked Cruz, "In the wake of the Sandy Hook shooting, a statistic surfaced putting support for background checks at 90% Did you go against the want of the nation with your vote against Manchin Toomey?"
It's at that moment that Cruz shows off his true stance on the Second Amendment and the importance of the Bill of Rights in a way that we've grown to appreciate as "classic Cruz." He listens patiently to the reporters question and then fires off a simple, yet effective, response.
Along with his sense of humor in this short clip, Cruz lays down the reasonings behind his vote against the Manchin Toomey bill. Point-by-point, he presents some interesting facts and impressive views that most politicians would be too afraid to say out loud, let alone in front of a camera!
