Having a child definitely makes life a lot more interesting for all new parents.
Watching my brother discover that as he and his wife welcomed my precious nephew has been a lot of fun. As the aunt, I get to sit back and enjoy all the adorable moments while they take care of the real responsibilities. I have yet to change any diapers, and I totally aim to keep it that way.
However, if they had received the same surprise during their pregnancy as the couple below, I doubt I would be able to get away with my slacker mode during my visits.
Jose and Julie Carles from Biggleswade, England, were absolutely shocked during their first month when a sonogram revealed they weren't expecting just one growing tot hiding inside Mom's belly.
After all, they barely had enough time to adjust to the idea of becoming parents, let alone being told their family was about to get much, much bigger!
The Carleses were married in 2005 after what they describe as a whirlwind romance.
Jose already had a son from his previous marriage, but since the pair were both in their late 30s at the time, they were anxious to get a start on their own family together.
They tried to conceive for about a year, but after no luck, tests showed that Julie wasn't ovulating regularly every month. Likely to do with her age, it made things much more difficult for the hopeful parents.
While they began discussing their fertility options, Julie managed to become pregnant naturally after all!
At their first sonogram, the Carleses were completely stunned when they were told there were multiple babies. Assuming this meant twins, the technician cleared things up by pointing out the four little ones on the screen.
Of course, that's some understandably jarring news! Julie apparently burst into tears while Jose's legs gave out from under him right there in the clinic room.
Luckily, they had the next eight months to process the life-changing revelation and prepare for their adorable daughters' entrance into the world.
Once little Ellie, Georgie, Holly, and Jessica were finally out of the hospital, the family settled into life in their home just six doors down from Julie's parents. They made the move just before the girls were born, since they knew they'd need all the help they could get!
Jose earned a nickname from his buddies as "the Quad Father" as he took to his new role as a daddy. Meanwhile, Julie came up with the perfect solution for not mixing up the identical quads' names by marking their tiny feet with their initials in the morning!
Knowing what a handful just one baby can be, it's amazing to see a family adapt so well to such an unexpected arrival! Obviously, the Carleses couldn't be more thrilled with each sweet girl in their lives.
