As anyone who lived through the 1970s can tell you, there's really nothing quite like the disco fashion people liked to groove in, back in the day.
Like a lot of the aesthetics of the era, the outfits revolved around bright hues and flashy accents, while folks danced the night away to the latest hit tunes at the club. Unlike the lingering hippie movement that clung to their leather fringe and earth tones, you can tell by the photos below that the people who embraced disco fashion definitely wanted to be noticed.
Whether they're famous performers or regular folks you'd see in your neighborhood, chances are you will recognize more than a few of the classic disco looks captured here. Sure, some choices are definitely a bit more out-there than others. However, you can't help but smile when you remember the decadent era's distinct style.

1. ABBA's Allure
The Swedish pop band was always known for going above and beyond when it came to dressing up for their performances, but I just can't get over that heart cutout in Agnetha Fältskog's midriff!
2. Cabaret Couture
Lars Jacob, a Swedish-American entertainer and writer, started holding his campy cabarets in discotheques across Europe before settling into a regular performance at the Alexandra nightclub in 1975.
3. Flared Up
Boys and girls both rocked the super-wide bell-bottomed pants, like the leather pair the young man is sporting in the photo above, while dancing with a young lady, who decided denim was the better option for her ensemble.
4. Dancing Divas
These barely-there outfits definitely embrace the era's excessive side as they groove to Isaac Hayes' tunes at the International Amphitheater in Chicago during the annual Push Black Expo, hosted by Soul Train back in 1973.
5. Pretty In Pink
She looks like a model, but this casual German woman from 1973 was just going about her day in this skin-tight outfit and fluffy fur bomber jacket.
6. '70s Cinderella
French actress Miou-Miou seems to have misplaced her slippers while filming with her co-star Julien Clerc in 1975, but the actor's giant circle glasses and clunky shoes definitely keep the pair trendy.
7. Climbing To New Heights
Perhaps Miou-Miou misplaced this same clunky style — probably because those platform heels were a bit more difficult to manage than expected, like many options back in the day that chose quirky style over comfort.
8. Rolling Around
Roller-discos popped up across the country near the end of the decade, inspiring these fashion choices, as well as the famous Olivia Newton-John flick, Xanadu.
9. Sparkling Sass
At first I thought this was a rare photo of Ellen DeGeneres flaunting way more than her usual sneakers and vest back in the day, but it's actually Swedish actress Eva Thomé performing with Lars Jacob in his cabaret.
10. High Hats
Lars was clearly a trendsetter. Here he is on the right, sporting a mustache, posing with his friend and frequent costar Steve Vigil, while visiting Miami, Florida, back in 1974.
11. Bold Brass
As a member of Max Collie's Rhythm Aces, this musician knew he had to look his best with a bright-yellow button-up and navy sweater vest.
12. Feathered Fur
Farrah Fawcett might have gotten inspiration for her iconic feathered hair from this beautiful model who pulled off the ethereal fur look back in 1973.
13. It Takes A Village
It really doesn't get much more disco than the Village People rocking their legendary outfits. They were likely on their way to perform "YMCA" for their fans back in 1978.
