Taylor Swift might have a huge fanbase now, but she wasn't exactly popular in high school according to one TikTok user who says she and Taylor went to the same school. In a video shared on TikTok, Jessica McLane said that she was a freshman in high school when Taylor was a junior. The woman admitted that she didn't know a ton about Taylor, but she did know that she was not well-liked by her peers at the time.
"'Teardrops On My Guitar' had just come out I think over the summer. Obviously she got really big and that’s the year that she left school," Jessica explained. "She was homeschooled in 2006. Something you need to know about Hendersonville High School when she first started becoming super successful is that most people hated her.”
Of course, there are many possible reasons for that. Jessica pointed out that Taylor was 16 or 17 yet she was leaving school to pursue her dreams. Additionally, the boys that she had written hit songs about were still in school. Some students started spreading rumors about how Taylor got famous. In the comments, some suspected that many of Taylor's classmates were jealous.
“There were not a lot of people in high school who had nice things to say about her," Jessica claimed in the video.
In 2009, during her senior year, Jessica and her classmates were invited to the Country Music Association Awards by Taylor, which was exciting but also confusing. They didn't know why Taylor invited them, and Jessica didn't come up with her theory until many years later.

After learning more about Taylor Swift, Jessica came to the conclusion that the things Taylor does are "intentional" and that she is also "petty."
“Y’all, she invited us to the CMAs to say f— you,” Jessica concluded. “And we deserved it.”
In the comments, some TikTok users shared Taylor Swift lyrics that seemed particularly relevant, suggesting that they also believe Jessica's theory has some truth to it.
"Someday I'll be living in a big old city…and all you're ever gonna be is mean," one TikTok user wrote, quoting Taylor Swift.
"No one wanted to play with me as a little kid, so I've been scheming like a criminal ever since," another wrote, quoting Taylor's song "Mastermind."
And for the TikTok users who doubted Jessica, she got out her old yearbooks and made another video showing photos of Taylor, her friend Abigail, and Drew, the boy mentioned in "Teardrops On My Guitar."
