Once in a while, police officers encounter animals in need of help while on duty and it's always heartwarming to see them leap into action to bring the helpless animals to safety.
For example, we've seen an Oklahoma cop help an owl with a broken wing and several in New York City rescue a goat from the slaughterhouse. It's not unusual for these moments to go viral (with good reason of course).
In the video below, we see the unforgettable moment Plattsburg Police Officer Nick Sheppard rescued a pooch that was caught in a backyard fence.
"Most of us became police officers so that we could help others. In this video Plattsburg Police Officer Nick Sheppard gets to help a four-legged citizen!" the Missouri police department wrote on Facebook, later adding, "Just to let you all know this happy doggy was picked up a short time later by his owner."
Without the officer's quick-thinking, it would be nearly impossible for the dog to set himself free. (And dog lovers beware, seeing this dog trapped might make you gasp.)
But what makes this rescue even more incredible is seeing where the pooch runs off to after he's set free. Even Officer Sheppard, who calls himself a "dog lover" (despite his playful cussing), couldn't believe his eyes.
Please SHARE if this dog rescue brought a smile to your face!
