But for one man posting on the image-sharing website Imgur, he never had the opportunity to introduce his beloved partner to his mother, and help them negotiate their relationship. That’s because he lost his mother long before he met the woman of his dreams.

The story starts with an innocuous sentence, one that seems to need no explanation.
An Imgur user recently took to the content-sharing website with a post entitled, "Caught my girlfriend idly chatting with my mother today."
This isn't a topic to write home about for most of us, but there's a catch here: the young man in question lost his mother five years earlier.
In the post, he explains, "My mom passed away 5 years ago. My girlfriend never got the chance to meet her, we met well after my mother was gone. I've told her whenever mom comes up in conversation that my mother would have adored her."
In other words, his girlfriend was having a casual conversation with a woman who had passed on long before she and her boyfriend met.
At first glance, this might seem a bit creepy or like a red flag, but her explanation is beyond sweet.
Because it's not just any old conversation, it's almost like a prayer to a woman watching from heaven.
According to the post, "I walked in on her thanking my mother for raising me to be who I am."
It's a conversation that the two women never got to have one-on-one, but an incredibly sweet way of thanking the woman who gave your boyfriend the life he has.
She went on and explained that she actually has a pretty established relationship with her boyfriend's late mother.
"When she realized I was in the room, she confessed that she talks to my mom sometimes when she's alone cleaning or studying."
His mother may not be around on a physical plane anymore, but simply imagining how she would respond provides helpful insight and advice.
In fact, his girlfriend likes to think that the two of them share a bit of camaraderie between this life and the next.
According to the post, "She either tells her what's going on, thanks her for me, or I've just done something stupid and she tells Mom that 'I'm sorry for what he must have put you through. I'm going to take care of him now. Promise.'"
In a lot of ways, it seems like his girlfriend's conversations with his late mother give her a valuable sounding board for sorting through the natural peaks and valleys of their relationship.
Sweetly, he closes his post by adding, "I am absolutely crazy about this woman and wanted to share my happiness."
