Every parent sends their child off to school with the hope that they will be well taken care of by teachers and staff.
It's a trust that allows the school system to thrive, and eases parents' concerns about saying goodbye to their little ones each morning.
And, in most cases, school staff holds up their end of the bargain.
Kids are watched closely and spend their days learning and socializing away from their parents.
But sometimes a child falls through the cracks and ends up in a bad situation.
This is exactly what happened to 5-year-old Xavier Mitchell when his mother Yolanda sent him to school one morning.
Xavier was dismissed from school and was expected home on the bus around 3:30 p.m.
His mom was waiting for him to pull up and hop off the bus, but by 6 p.m. he still hadn't arrived.
Mitchell was understandably upset by the situation, especially when her calls to the bus company yielded no information on her son's whereabouts.
As more time passed, she was left with no other option than to involve the police.
Her panic was only increased when a bus finally pulled up at her house, but little Xavier wasn't on it.
Finally, nearly three and a half hours late, the correct bus pulled up andthe mother and son were reunited. Mitchell also took a minute to confront the bus driver, but she was still left with no true answers as to what had happened.
