Gold medal Olympian Michael Phelps is now the proud father of three little boys. The 34-year-old athlete and wife Nicole, a former Miss California, welcomed son Maverick Nicolas Phelps on September 9.
The couple announced their latest bundle of joy on Instagram. Michael captioned a photo of the family:
“Family of 5! Welcome @mavericknphelps to the world! Born 9-9-19. Mama and baby are healthy and the boys are pumped to be big bros! #housefullofboys @boonestudios.”
Maverick joins 3-year-old Boomer Robert and 18-month-old Beckett Richard.
Nicole shared the same image, writing:
“We welcomed Maverick Nicolas Phelps into the world on 9/9/19 at 36 weeks and 2 days. Our lil big man was 6lb 5o and 20 (inches). He instantly has stolen all of our hearts and keeps me an ecstatic mommy of boys I can’t wait to walk this journey surrounded by my men. #familyof5.“
Michael and Nicole celebrated their third wedding anniversary this June. Coincidentally, the couple marked their union with three separate wedding ceremonies.
Michael Phelps and wife Nicole Johnson Phelps just welcomed another little boy to their brood. Nicole gave birth to the couple's third son, Maverick Nicolas Phelps, on September 9, officially cementing them as a family of five.
"We welcomed Maverick Nicolas Phelps into the world on 9/9/19 at 36 weeks and 2 days," Nicole wrote alongside an Instagram photo of the family.
"Our lil big man was 6lb 5o and 20". He instantly has stolen all of our hearts and keeps me an ecstatic mommy of boys I can’t wait to walk this journey surrounded by my men. #familyof5."
Little Maverick joins two wonderful older brothers. Michael and Nicole are also parents to 3-year-old Boomer Robert and 18-month-old Beckett Richard. The couple didn't find out whether they were having a boy or girl ahead of time, so they were just as surprised as everyone else by the outcome.
While Michael and Nicole were both hoping to shake up the household dynamic with a girl, Michael did muse what a house with three boys would be like while talking to People. "If we get lucky enough to have a third boy, it is going to be craziness in our house," he joked.
Michael and Nicole met in 2007 at the ESPYs. They dated through 2012, when they briefly split. Thankfully, the two patched things up, and it was smooth sailing from there. They got engaged in February 2015.
The couple celebrated their nuptials with three different wedding ceremonies. They secretly tied the knot in Paradise Valley in June 2016. The event was officiated by agent and close friend Peter Carlisle.
In October 2016, the couple had a second ceremony in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico. There, Boomer got the chance to play ring bearer. The couple shared photos of the breathtaking ceremony on Instagram.
Last but not least was their New Year's Eve wedding ceremony at the Waldorf Astoria Arizona Biltmore Resort. The 1920s-themed celebration featured a gorgeous six-tier, black-and-gold Art Deco cake.
Weddings aren't the only celebrations the Phelps do big. Nicole's maternity shoots for all three of her pregnancies have also been incredible. For baby No. 1, the mom-to-be did an absolutely stunning underwater photo shoot.
For baby No. 2, Nicole didn't feel up to taking pictures, but she pushed through. She opted for a more casual, at-home session with Boomer on hand. The photos are absolutely adorable and so down to earth.
With this latest pregnancy, Nicole decided to channel her inner goddess … a desert goddess, to be exact. The former Miss California looked stunning in a bump-hugging green dress as she posed near cacti.
Boomer and Beckett got to be the stars of Nicole's pregnancy announcement, and they did an incredibly adorable job of it. The brothers rode around in a toy jeep with balloons spelling out "baby" in the sweet shots.
As for any more little swimmers, it's uncertain whether the couple will go for a fourth child down the road. In their sit-down with Parents in July, Nicole said, "We both have always said we want three kids. A week after coming home from the hospital with Beckett, I was like, “Okay, I’m not done, I want more."
The Phelps family looks totally in love with each other. It seems like baby Maverick will be a pleasant addition to their cozy family dynamic. Congratulations to Michael and Nicole on their latest little one!
