Screen legends Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers had a professional relationship that spanned several years and 10 famous films. The dancing duo made their first appearance together in Flying Down to Rio back in 1933.
For the next six years, they performed in piece after piece together, creating such a team that has never been equalled since their original screen debut. But while their dancing has always been heralded as incredible and extraordinary, it was Ginger who began to tinker with the idea of a costume being more than just something an actress should wear.
She helped merge and bridge the gap of fashion, and by wearing some of the most incredible gowns seen in film, she managed to inspire the millions of movie viewers who were enraptured by her flowing and mesmerizing silhouette.
Not only did she need to wear something beautiful, but it had to be built well enough to allow her the freedom of movement for some of her incredible dance moves.
While Astaire is (rightfully so) heralded as one of the greatest entertainers of the century, Ginger has been left by the wayside in comparison. It should always be noted that Ginger could do anything that Fred could, only she could do it in high heels!
