Naomi Campbell is opening up about what it's like to be a mom at 51 years old.
In the latest issue of British Vogue, the supermodel is talking about motherhood in-depth for the first time since welcoming her 9-month-old daughter. She hasn't revealed her little girl's name just yet, but the nameless little beauty is officially a cover star after shooting the cover with her very iconic mother.
Naomi is happy to report that her little girl is, in many ways, just like her. She also addresses some of the questions surrounding her after becoming a mom at 50.
Naomi is already the picture of pride when it comes to her little girl, who is content on an airplane or a fashion shoot set.
"I'm lucky my little one loves to travel like me – no whimpering taking off or landing," she shared.
"She's a good girl: she sleeps very well, she hardly ever cries and I'm told she's very alert for her age. She's just started waving, which is fun. She laughs a lot. She's almost talking."
Naomi announced her baby girl to the world on Instagram in May 2021. The nature of her announcement, which didn't include birth details or the baby's name, left many people with questions. Also factored in was the fact that most people didn't know motherhood was on the 50-year-old supermodel's radar at the time.
"I can count on one hand the number of people who knew that I was having her," she admitted.
"But she is the biggest blessing I could ever imagine. It's the best thing I've ever done."
Naomi confirmed that despite speculation to the contrary, her daughter is biologically her child and was carried by her.
"She wasn't adopted – she's my child," she shared.
Naomi is mastering motherhood and modeling at 51. She may be sharing the runway with the next generation, but she's also keeping in close touch with the women she ruled the world alongside: Linda Evangelista, Cindy Crawford, and Christy Turlington.
Cindy met Naomi's daughter just a few days after she was born. Next to come was Christy, who met her just about a week later. Sadly, Linda hasn't gotten to meet Naomi's baby girl in the aftermath of a Cool Sculpting procedure that reportedly left her "brutally disfigured," the subject of an ongoing lawsuit.
"She's a strong woman and I think she's very brave," says Naomi.
"It takes a lot of courage to come out and speak her truth. I stand by her absolutely."
One of the beautiful things about motherhood Naomi has gotten to enjoy is seeing things with childlike wonder again.
"I'm like a kid again. I'm reliving nursery rhymes, playing and discovering how many great new toys there are out there in the world!" she shared.
"And dolls! Things I couldn't even dream of."
Her baby's closet is already something to behold, though would you expect anything less?
"She has a really nice closet thanks to so many designers and friends who have sent her some lovely things, but wow, kids grow fast, don’t they?"
Naomi says that despite the opinions out there about her becoming a mom in her 50s, it has been nothing short of incredible, and she's even encouraging friends to do the same.
"I always knew that one day I would be a mother, but it's the biggest joy I could ever imagine," she said.
"I'm lucky to have her and I know that."
