Zahara Jolie-Pitt Will Be Attending College This Year At The Oldest Private HBCU In The US

Angelina Jolie took to Instagram to announce where her daughter Zahara Marley Jolie-Pitt decided to attend college. Zahara chose Spelman College, which is located in Atlanta, Georgia, and is a historically Black college for women.

Angelina captioned a picture of Zahara surrounded by new classmates and friends: "Zahara with her Spelman sisters! Congratulations to all new students starting this year. A very special place and an honor to have a family member as a new Spelman girl."

Angelina shares six children with ex-husband Brad Pitt. In addition to Zahara, age 17, they share Maddox, age 20; Pax, age 18; Shiloh, age 16; and twins Vivienne and Knox, both age 14. Angelina and Brad divorced in September 2016 but are still working on dividing assets and custody agreements.

The children of the former power couple mainly stay out of the public eye. Angelina and Zahara did visit Washington, DC, together last year to speak out in support of the Violence Against Women Act. Angelina shared a photo of this to her Instagram account.

Spelman College is a private, nonprofit four-year college. It was founded in 1881 and was then known as the Atlanta Baptist Female Seminary. The name change occurred in 1924. It is part of the Atlanta University Center Consortium.

The college has around 2,100 students from 43 states and 10 foreign countries. Its mission statement states that it is “dedicated to academic excellence in the liberal arts and sciences and the intellectual, creative, ethical, and leadership development of its students. Through diverse learning modalities, Spelman empowers the whole person to engage the many cultures of the world and inspires a commitment to positive social change.”

Notable alumni include novelist Alice Walker, politician Stacey Abrams, and civil rights activist Dovey Johnson Roundtree. The historically Black college also boasts Keshia Knight Pulliam from The Cosby Show as a previous student.
