The case of Shelly Miscavige is highly unsettling, and for decades people have been trying to solve her abrupt disappearance from the public eye. Wife of Scientology Leader David Miscavige, she has not been spotted in public since 2007. So where is she? Many have their assumptions, but here is what's to know about her.
First of all, who is she? Shelly was known as the "First Lady of Scientology." She and David married in 1982. The two were members of a group called the Commodore’s Messenger Organization. David became the leader of the Church of Scientology in 1987.
What we know is that Shelly played a substantial role alongside David up until 2006. The last time she was seen publicly was at her father's funeral in 2007. And since then, she has not been seen in public, nor with family or friends.

Leah Remini, an actress, left the church in 2013. She filed a missing persons report with the Los Angeles Police Department, concerned about Shelly's whereabouts and well-being.
Not even a month later, the police department made it known that it would not be pursuing the case. The church said that Shelly was simply leading a private life. “She is not a public figure and we ask that her privacy be respected,” a spokesperson stated in 2013.
According to former Scientologist Marc Headley, Shelly was in a bad place with the church at the time of her dad's funeral. She'd been stripped of her duties and was being watched by a handler during the service.
When Leah didn't see Shelly at Tom Cruise's wedding to Katie Holmes in 2006, where David was the best man, she started to become concerned. She noted that she asked multiple wedding guests where Shelly was, to which no one responded.
When Leah asked Tommy Davis, the top church official, his response was, "I don’t think you have the [expletive] rank, quite honestly, to ask where Shelly is." He denied ever making such a statement.
Over the years, the church has claimed that Leah is simply bitter with a delusional agenda. “Ms. Remini also continues her bizarre efforts to harass the Church of Scientology’s leader and his wife, whom Ms. Remini has been obsessed with and has stalked for years," it wrote in a statement.
To this day, the whereabouts of Shelly are unknown, though the Church of Scientology continues to claim that she simply prefers to remain out of the public eye. Leah continues to raise awareness around Shelly's case in hopes of finding answers someday.
