Ali Krieger was "devastated" when Ashlyn Harris filed for divorce, but she was also extremely grateful for the people who were there to support here as she navigated the major life change. Ali and Ashlyn met when they were teammates on the United States women's national soccer team.
The pair got married in December 2019 and they later adopted two children. In October 2023, Ashlyn filed for divorce — and in a recent interview with Self, Ali revealed that she was on the soccer field when she found out.
"I found out at training. I was on the field. And I came off the field, in the locker room, and I was obviously devastated," she told Self. Luckily, her friends were there for her, and she will "never forget" that night, because her teammates showed up for a dance party.
"My teammates just started walking through the door," she told Self. "All of them. At different times. Until 2 in the morning, we were there, just hanging out, dancing, putting music on YouTube. We were sitting in the playroom, in my kitchen; we were dancing and hanging out, and they were all bringing wine and flowers, and just … themselves."

She was "so appreciative" because people kept showing up for her — and they have continued to do so for the past several months.
"Through these past five months, my friends have shown up in ways that I will cherish and remember forever. They are my true people,” she shared.
In October 2023, Ali posted on Instagram, writing that she was "preparing for playoffs while in my Beyoncé lemonade era."
Around the same time, Page Six reported that "multiple sources" claimed that Ashlyn was dating Sophia Bush, who filed for divorce from her ex-husband Grant Hughes in August 2023.
Cheating rumors began circulating, and Ashlyn took to Instagram to address the rumors in November 2023.
"Several weeks ago, a process that had been ongoing privately for some time became public," Ashlyn wrote on Instagram. Though they planned on keeping their separation private for some time, "a leak made that impossible."
She called the backlash that she faced after the news broke "one of the most personally devastating experiences of my life," adding that it "has devastated [her] mental health" and "has been brutal."
In her post, Ashlyn also said that she did not cheat. "Let me be clear: I did not step out on my marriage," she wrote. "I was always faithful in my marriage, if not always totally happy."
She also wrote that "none of this happened on a whim."
Though Ali told Self that she "never thought [she] would ever have to be in this position," she's also "in a healthy space."
"I’m still processing everything in real time. Obviously, I met the most broken version of myself this year, but now — the strongest. I feel like I can get through anything, and I am so ready for this next phase," she told the publication.
Eventually, she'd like to be in another relationship — but she knows she's not at that point yet. For now, she plans to focus on herself and her kids.
