Lenny Kravitz cannot deny the love that still remains for his ex-wife Lisa Bonet. Opening up in his interview for his People cover story, the 59-year-old rock star talked about his bond with the actress.
"I am what I am because of our experience, because of everything that I was, everything that she was and everything that came together," he shared, before diving into their history of love, marriage, and how the two ultimately remained good friends and co-parents even after their divorce in 1993.
They first met backstage at a New Edition concert in 1985. In his 2020 memoir, Lenny stated, “We vibed immediately. Time stood still. Without a lot being said, there was magnetism. I'd never had an encounter like it before. We were from the same tribe."
In 1987, the two got married in Las Vegas. For a while, Lenny was stuck in Lisa's shadow, being called "Mr. Bonet" before his first two albums gained him a lot of attention, ultimately making him a sex symbol.

“I wasn’t thinking, ‘Oh, this is sexy.’ I was just living and doing,” he explained. “I was married to the most beautiful woman on the planet, incredible inside and out, and I wasn’t paying attention to that. I was paying attention to the music."
On December 1, 1988, they welcomed their daughter Zoë Kravitz. "We were quite the family," he said. "We had our own groove, expression, fashion. It was a beautiful time. The world Zoë’s mom and I were creating, our family, it was about peace, love and spirit.”
The marriage between the couple didn't last long, however. They divorced in 1993, which the "American Woman" singer says was due to him struggling emotionally and them marrying at a young age. But through the odds, they managed to keep their bond strong.
“The love doesn’t leave you, but it has to find a new way to funnel itself into a new life,” he shared. “We consciously wanted to do that. It took time, believe me, but she is a part of my life that will never leave my heart, my soul or my spirit. I am what I am because of our experience.”
The 56-year-old actress went on to have a relationship with Jason Momoa. They have two children, a daughter who was born in 2007 and a son born in 2008. They married in 2017, after 12 years together but separated in 2022. Two years after their public split, Lisa filed for divorce.
Lenny and the Aquaman actor have been friends for years, even while Jason was married to Lisa. The rock star wished the actor a happy birthday on Instagram after his split from the actress, sharing a photo of the two riding motorcycles. "Happy Birthday, Jason. Love and respect always."
