When our babies come into this world, all we can hope for is that they’re healthy and happy. When something happens that puts their health in jeopardy, everything we had hoped for as parents may feel like it’s crashing down around us and all we can do is lean on dedicated health care providers to help us navigate things.
This incredible story is about a baby girl named Sloan who was born with a sizeable disfiguring tumor on the left side of her face. According to Inside Edition, Sloan was diagnosed with hemangioma, which is a noncancerous growth made up of extra blood vessels.
The entertainment news outlet reports that Sloan’s parents, Joe and Jennifer McGillis from Montana, were alarmed when they first saw their newborn baby girl due to the massive growth on her face. Jennifer told Inside Edition that she “went into shock” while Joe felt a sense of “panic terror.”
Over several years, little Sloan underwent 10 surgeries to both remove the tumor and then the scars from her face under the care of a surgeon in New York who specializes in hemangioma and malformations.
There were complications to worry about due to the position of the tumor on Sloan’s face. Doctors had to worry about the damage that could be caused to Sloan’s facial muscles and nerves, but after 10 surgeries, the nerve and smile muscles were intact.

One might wonder how such a small child could go through 10 surgeries, but Jennifer told Inside Edition that Sloan handled it all “amazingly” and was never “scared.”
