15-Year-Old Australian Dirt Bike Racer Amelia Kotze Dead After Crash During Event

A teenage Australian dirt bike racer died after crashing her bike during an event. The Australian organization Motorcycling New South Wales announced that 15-year-old Amelia Kotze died after “succumbing to injuries” sustained while competing in the Central Coast Cup, one of its events that was held on Saturday, May 25, 2024. Emergency services were called to the Allen Park track in Somersby at the time of the crash.

Kotze sustained life-threatening injuries during the accident. She was flown to the Westmead Children’s Hospital in Sydney and placed in the ICU. She died from her injuries on Tuesday, May 28, 2024.

Motorcycling NSW paid tribute to the dirt bike racer, “a beacon of talent, determination, and sportsmanship," the organization noted. “Amelia was a favourite among peers and competitors alike.”

"Her loss is deeply felt across our community, and she will be remembered not only for her incredible achievements on the track but also for the joy and inspiration she brought to all who knew her," the statement continued. "In this time of immense sorrow, our thoughts and prayers are with Amelia’s family, friends, and everyone who had the privilege of knowing her. We extend our heartfelt condolences and support to her loved ones during this difficult period."

In a GoFundMe shared by her parents, the family took the time to remember the teen. "Our Champion of the track, Amelia Kotze, has unfortunately been involved in a motorbike accident at the Central Coast Cup at Somersby on Saturday May 25th 2024. This has resulted in her being flown to Westmead hospital with life threatening injuries. Amelia is a 15 year old young lady who is an absolute inspiration to all that meet her, and an astounding champion on and off the track."

"Amelia needs our support, let’s come together and help her family with any costs for medical, accommodation for her family to be there with her and/or any unexpected costs that may arise through this tough time," the post continued. "I'm asking for all who can help support Amelia and her family please do so, no matter how big or small every dollar helps in this very heartbreaking time."

"Our prayers and thoughts are with you ‘Millie’ keep fighting like you do on the track babe. You can win this race too. xo," the post concluded. Shortly after the teenager's death, the post was updated.

"UPDATE-Our little champion of the track has finished her race here with us and has gained her wings to now race in heaven," it read. "You were such an inspiration to everyone and you will be dearly missed by all.. Hold the throttle on babe, Fly high and ride hard beautiful girl. Forever #789 xoxo."

Kotze was a rising star in the dirt bike world. She'd earned the Junior Girls State Titles in Victoria in November 2023 and previously competed in the NSW Junior Track Championships and Australian Dirt Track Championships. She also earned the Motorcycling NSW’s prestigious title of Junior Female Rider of the Year last year at its awards ceremony.
