Oprah Winfrey's best friend Gayle King might be oversharing. Oprah was supposed to appear on her friend's show, CBS Mornings, on June 11, 2024. But she had to miss the show because she was hospitalized with the stomach flu. Gayle gave all the gory details because she wanted to audience to understand how badly Oprah wanted to be there.
Oprah was supposed to introduce David Wroblewski. His book Familiaris is her latest book club pick. Oprah loves the novel and desperately wanted to be there in person to champion it.
“She had some kind of stomach thing — stomach flu — stuff was coming out of both ends,” Gayle stated. “I won’t get too graphic. Needless to say, she ended up in the hospital, dehydration, had to get an IV, it was a very serious thing.” Gayle also said that Oprah tried to “rally” but just couldn't. Gayle also assured audiences that Oprah “will be OK.” She just hopes “she’s not mad at me for sharing that detail.”
A spokesperson addressed the issue in a statement to Page Six. They shared Oprah “is recovering following a stomach flu and received an IV due to dehydration at the recommendation of her doctor. She is resting and feeling better every day.”

Oprah promoted it on Instagram. She called it an “extraordinary journey that brilliantly interweaves history, philosophy, adventure, and mysticism to explore the meaning of love, friendship and living your life’s true purpose.”
