Grimes, Who Is Elon Musk’s Ex, Says She ‘Became Way Less Gay’ After Pregnancy

Grimes wants to know if there’s a reason why she feels “way less gay” after giving birth. The musician welcomed her first child with Elon Musk on May 4, 2020. Grimes, 36, and Elon, 53, are no longer together, but they share three children: X Æ A-Xii, Exa Dark Sideræl, and Techno Mechanicus. On October 22, 2024, Grimes took to X to share the interesting (and controversial) way in which she thinks pregnancy impacted her.

“I became way less gay after I was pregnant, my ability to focus on reading and writing went way up, as did my general creativity, but my ability to focus on technical things went *way* down,” Grimes wrote on X. “Is this all explained by hormones?”

In a follow-up, post she said, “I’m kinda curious abt the theories. Was reading abt grey matter loss but improved neuroplasticity associated w pregnancy.”

While some people told Grimes that there might be a scientific explanation for what she’s experiencing, others were confused.

“Wait wdym by being less gay??” one person asked the musician. Grimes responded with, “Just less interested in dating girls.”

Grimes has not publicly labeled her sexuality, but after ending her relationship with Elon in 2021, she joked about starting a lesbian commune.

In an email to Page Six in 2021, Grimes wrote, “I’ll be colonizing [one of Jupiter’s moons] Europa separately from Elon for the lesbian space commune.”

Some people could actually relate to Grimes feeling “less gay” after her pregnancy and thought that it really could have something to do with hormones, though others didn’t think the theory made much sense.

Did grimes really say she became ‘way less gay’ after pregnancy,” one person wrote on X. “im crying what.”

“(In the middle of unrelated convo at the bar) Is it just me or has Grimes gotten a lot less gay due to motherhood?” another person joked.

As people continued to share their theories on Grimes’ post, one person suggested that her former relationship with “a bigot” — presumably Elon Musk — might’ve had something to do with the way she was feeling.

“No I think that’s just from being in a heterosexual relationships with a bigot bae,” the person wrote on X. Grimes responded with, “I feel like that shud make me more gay tho.”

Though Elon and Grimes broke up in 2021, Grimes hinted at reconciliation with him in a Vanity Fair article published in March 2022. They weren’t exactly “together” — but they were kind of together, depending on how you defined it, she explained.

“I would probably refer to him as my boyfriend, but we’re very fluid. We live in separate houses. We’re best friends. We see each other all the time,” Grimes said at the time. “We just have our own thing going on, and I don’t expect other people to understand it.”

Although Grimes and Elon were “together” at the time of the interview, by the time it was published, they had already broken up again.

“Me and E have broken up *again* since the writing of this article haha, but he’s my best friend and the love of my life, and my life and art are forever dedicated to The Mission now, I think Devin wrote that part of the story rly well,” Grimes wrote on X (formerly Twitter) on March 10, 2022. “Sique – peace out.”
