What to Know
After Donald Trump Jr. took to social media to criticize Tim Walz, the Minnesota governor’s daughter told him that she actually feels sorry for him. Tim’s daughter, Hope Walz, said that the way Don Jr. acts makes it pretty clear that he has “daddy issues.” And unlike the Trump family, her family enjoys “spending time together” rather than “tearing other people down.”
Unfortunately, though, she ended up receiving “some really scary” messages in response, prompting her to take a break from social media out of concerns for her family’s safety.
Hope spoke out against the Trumps after they called her dad an ableist slur.
After President Donald Trump used the ableist slur to describe Tim, Hope, 24, said in a since-deleted video that Trump’s hateful rhetoric “unleashed a f‑‑‑ing s‑‑‑storm regarding offensive language towards me and my family and specifically my brother.”
She acknowledged that, given that her dad is an elected official, people will disagree with him and criticize him, and that’s fair. But the fact that the president used a slur against him is “utterly disgraceful.”
“How is it OK that the president of the United States can call somebody — anybody, doesn’t matter who they are — that, and then all of his fricking cult members come and attack those people and that person’s family,” she added.
Tim also said that because of the president’s hateful comment, people have started driving by his home and using the ableist slur. Don Jr. shared a clip of Tim saying this and captioned it with, “They’re not wrong.”
This prompted Hope to make another video directed at Don Jr.
In it, she said there are clearly some differences between her family and the Trump family. For example, her dad actually loves her. “Oh, Don. It is so clear that your dad does not love you,” Hope said in her video. “If there is any love there, it’s not for your compassion, like my dad loves me, but instead your cruelty, and that’s not love.”
Because of Don Jr.’s complicated family dynamics, she feels bad for him. “Those daddy issues are so, so clear, and I genuinely do feel sad for you,” she said. “I really hope you get the help you need. In the meantime, I’m going to continue building up that, you know, joy and love and happiness with my family, because at the end of the day, that’s what matters. So, good luck, Don.”

Elsewhere in the video, Hope also said it’s sad that Don Jr. and his family members “feel the need to degrade and put down large swaths of the country in an attempt to make yourself feel better.” She captioned the video with, “you’re embarrassing and gross, seek help.”
She later made the difficult decision to take a break from social media.
@hopewalz this is trumps america,, i’ll see yall after christmas 🤎 i hope you have a wonderful holiday season #fyp ♬ original sound – hopewalz
In a video shared via TikTok on Wednesday, December 10, opened with, “If you follow me, know me, know anything about me, you know that I’m not one to back down and often I, in fact, do the opposite of that, and that is, you know who I am, what I use this platform for.”
But for now, she has to “take a step back” because of some of the concerning messages she’s received. “When it comes to my safety and my family’s safety, there has to be a line there and in the past few days, there have been some things that have crossed that line,” she explained. While it’s not something that she ever thought she’d have to do, stepping back from social media feels necessary at the moment.
She added, “I’m always going to be someone that stands up for what is right and for the little guy, but I think right now, I just have to look out for my family and my family’s safety.” In the caption, she wrote, “this is trumps america,, i’ll see yall after christmas 🤎 i hope you have a wonderful holiday season.”
