Democratic Councilor Goes Viral Begging People Not To Confuse Him With His MAGA Twin

After people saw someone who looked just like him wearing a MAGA hat, Indianapolis city councilor Nick Roberts (who is a Democrat) felt he had to set the record straight. He is not secretly a Republican, and would never wear one of President Donald Trump’s infamous red caps. Instead, he happens to have a twin brother who is a Republican. Can you imagine?

His twin brother, Nathan, has also gotten involved in politics, which has apparently created so much confusion that Nick decided to make a video explaining what’s going on.

Nick made it clear that he is not joking.

While it’s one of those things that just sounds a bit too bizarre to actually be true, Nick assured his followers that he was being 100% serious. In a video shared on social media, he said, “I just want to address something for you all that you may have heard about because it’s caused a lot of confusion.”

Nick then revealed that he has an identical twin brother named Nate, who has “recently decided to get involved in Republican politics.” Awkward.

Knowing how unlikely the story sounded, Nick added, “Yes, I promise this is real and not a joke.” He acknowledged that people would probably find it “ridiculous,” but he felt it was important to explain. “It’s been very confusing because we look similar, because he’s Republican, and because a lot of people didn’t know I was a twin in the first place.”

If you see someone who looks like him wearing a MAGA cap, it’s his brother.

The story does sound a bit strange, but lots of people do have loved ones that they don’t see eye to eye with. Of course, it’s even more complicated when that person looks just like you and you’re both involved in politics.

He concluded his video with, “If you see somebody that looks like me at a Republican event, or definitely if they’re wearing a MAGA hat, it is not me. It is him. And while we disagree on a lot of things, he’s still my brother and I care about him. We just disagree on basically every single political issue.”

Nick said he doesn’t believe in cutting loved ones off if you don’t agree with them.

He told Time magazine, “I am of the opinion that isolating people and cutting them out of your family due to politics isn’t how I want to be as a family, but beyond that, it is also ineffective. As a party, we need to be more welcoming of debate and conversation, especially when it isn’t easy, to try to change hearts and minds.”

Meanwhile, his twin brother (who really does exist), told the publication that he and his brother disagree on “90% of things” but haven’t “really ever had any heated discussions.”

But apparently, they started to notice their differing political beliefs years ago, when they were in middle school. “Funnily enough, I was recently reading something we wrote in 8th Grade where I talked about being the Democratic twin and he talked about being the Republican twin,” Nick told the publication.

Nick said he and his MAGA twin “debate fiercely” but remain “very civil.” He added, “I will continue to try to convince him of my viewpoints every day even though I know it is often a losing battle, unfortunately.”
