Donald J. Trump International Airport Logo Sparks Backlash

Eric Trump just shared the logo for “the President Donald J. Trump International Airport,” aka Florida’s Palm Beach International Airport. In a contentious 4-3 vote on Tuesday, May 5, county commissioners approved the renaming of Palm Beach International Airport, so it’s expected to become the President Donald J. Trump International Airport.

Critics of this change see it as the Trump family’s latest vanity project, grift, and participation trophy all in one. And the unveiling of the logo has sparked a ton of mockery and backlash online.

Eric shared the logo on social media.

In an X post, he wrote, “For the first time, I am extremely proud to share the OFFICIAL logo for the Donald J. Trump International Airport in Palm Beach, Florida. There is no person more deserving of this incredible honor than @realDonaldTrump! Congratulations Dad!”

He added, “Looking forward to seeing flights landing at ‘DJT’ very very soon!” But critics who reacted in the comments were obviously far less enthusiastic. “Naming an airport after yourself while still in office is a different level of confidence,” one critic wrote in response.

People also questioned the Trump family’s priorities. While ordinary Americans are struggling, they’re worried about… changing the name of an airport and creating a new logo?

“A logo huh,” someone else said. “Your family makes a big deal about literally every tiny thing while slapping voters in the face.” And another critic added, “Can you tell your dad that his priorities are off and that Americans are barely surviving? We have lost our liberties, dignity, happiness, rights, freedom, ability to support ourselves.”

Of course, California Governor Gavin Newsom’s press office also had something to say. “Gas prices are up over 50% since your dad started a reckless war in Iran,” the press team wrote. “But congrats on the airport logo. Huge accomplishment!”

People also shared their own versions of the same logo.

A lot of critics decided to “fix” the logo for Eric, and many of them did so by including references to convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. Several people edited the logo to include images of Trump with Epstein, while others changed the name of the airport to things like, “Jeffrey Epstein/Donald Trump International Airport” or “Jeffrey Epstein’s favorite airport.”

A few of the critics also added subheads beneath the logo, such as, “Only airport in the world named after a convicted felon” or “welcoming all pedophiles.”

And, of course, the critics didn’t see it as an “honor.”

Instead, it seems like another way for the Trump family to make money off of the presidency. According to a report from The New Republic, the Trump family will need to approve all airport-branded merchandise because of a trademark deal between the county and a company managed by Trump.

Apparently, the president’s companies have argued that he will not profit off of this, but the publication stated that the Trump family could actually make millions off of the airport’s name change.

And social media critics also suspected that this is another example of the Trump family’s commitment to grifting. “This is exactly what people mean when they say the Trump family treats America like a branding deal,” one critic commented.

Someone else argued, “This isn’t about changing the name of an airport to honor your father, it’s about looking for another revenue stream for Trump Org. You may well be planning on selling Trump’s Gold phone in some random Kiosk in the airport.”

Trump also seems to like the constant recognition, though, which is probably why people have created various “fake” awards to honor him.
