Joely Richardson Just Shared A Rare Memory From Natasha Richardson’s Wedding To Liam Neeson

May 11, 2026 would’ve been Natasha Richardson’s 63rd birthday. In an emotional post on social media, her sister, Joely Richardson, reflected on one of the happiest days of Natasha’s life. It was the day she married her husband, Liam Neeson.

Natasha and Liam got married in 1994, about a year after their relationship became romantic (they met when they starred in Anna Christie on Broadway). They welcomed two children together before Natasha died from a severe brain injury in 2009, when she was 45 years old.

Joely shared several photos of Natasha and Liam on Instagram.

Joely Richardson pays tribute to her late sister Natasha Richardson and Liam Neeson’s love story “The day Tasha married Liam Neeson was one of the happiest of her life (the tenderness of her upward gaze) – she couldn’t believe it, and we danced til’dawn. Oh the glamour of this couple…”

According to her, the photos “kept popping up” due to “the recent 90s revival,” so she decided to share them on her late sister’s birthday. “11th of May is forever my sister’s birthday, even though she left this earthly plane 17 yrs ago,” she wrote in the caption.

The first photo she chose was from Natasha and Liam’s wedding day. They invited about 70 people to a backyard ceremony, per People. In her post, Joely reflected on how much that day had meant to Natasha. She wrote, “The day Tasha married Liam Neeson was one of the happiest of her life ( the tenderness of her upward gaze)- she couldn’t believe it, and we danced til’ dawn.”

She continued, “Oh the glamour of this couple, their warmth and humour . I love the last photo as it’s full of mischief , and utterly her . Seize the day, she did ♥️”

People reacted to the sweet memory in the comments.

A lot of the people who left comments loved Natasha and Liam’s loved story and noticed the way they looked at each other in each of the photos Joely shared. One person commented, “Happy Birthday sweet Tasha💗 Gosh, theirs was such a love story…they, so obviously, utterly adored one another. Thinking of you all💗✨” Someone else wrote, “It always looks like they are totally in love with each other. ❤️ A beautiful thing to see.”

And another person added, “She was an incredible woman, and someone I considered a role model! Happy birthday Natasha, we all still miss you.”

In 2020, Liam revealed that he still spoke to his late wife regularly. “I speak to her every day at her grave, which is about a mile and a half down the road,” he told Inquirer.net, per People. “I go down there quite often, so I do speak to her as if she’s here. Not that she answers me.”

In 2014, he said her sudden death still didn’t feel real to him.

During a 60 Minutes interview five years after her tragic death, Liam explained, “[Her death] was never real. It still kind of isn’t. There’s periods now in our New York residence when I hear the door opening, especially the first couple of years…anytime I hear that door opening, I still think I’m going to hear her.”

Speaking of grief, he added, “It hits you. It’s like a wave. You just get this profound feeling of instability…the Earth isn’t stable anymore and then it passes and it becomes more infrequent, but I still get it sometimes.”
