If there is one thing Donald Trump is going to do when it comes to Barack Obama, it’s say the opposite of whatever the former two-time president says. So that’s what he did when a reporter asked Trump about Obama’s comments regarding having women running major government offices. Trump called the idea “ridiculous,” and while no one is surprised, the comment did cause a heated debate on social media.
Again, this is par for the course with Trump. His supporters, and those who support MAGA, are equally as passionate and vocal as those who do not support Trump in any way. So it should come as little surprise that users on Reddit came together and came at each other’s throats to discuss Trump’s comments about women in power.

For some, Obama is the teacher who was forced into retirement and replaced by a crotchety substitute who just doesn’t fit the bill. Those same people applauded Obama when he spoke at Salem State University in Massachusetts and spoke in favor of women ruling government agencies in place of men. According to Us Weekly, Obama was asked what he thinks would happen if women were put in charge of every government for two years.
He responded, “I have a strong belief that things…they wouldn’t be perfect, but they’d be better.”
Later, when a reporter asked Trump what he thinks of Obama’s comments, Trump had his own quotable quote to make headlines.
He said, “I love women, I think they’re great, but what a ridiculous statement that is, right? Even you would say that.”
Trump critics slammed him for his comments about women in politics.

Sure, Trump claims to love women. But to what end? After he made his boisterous comments about what Obama said and his own opinions about women in power, users on social media criticized the sitting president for his candor.
Under a TikTok with footage from Trump’s moment where he commented on what Obama said, users called out Trump for being “intimidated by strong women.” They also wrote that Trump is a “weak man” for fearing strong women.
“I think our country needs a leader who is empathetic, compassionate, morally decent, and accepting,” another user wrote under the TikTok. “Because it’s not about dominating and controlling, it’s about rebuilding the world we live in and making it a wonderful place.”
“After 250 years of men running our country, I think it’s only fair we give women a shot,” someone else added.
Others commented to slam Trump as a leader and to insist that women “get s–t done,” plain and simple.
He spoke down about Kamala Harris as president.
Trump’s comments might be out of pocket, but they are also on brand for him. In late 2024 during Trump’s campaign, he spoke out against then-nominee Kamala Harris winning her bid as the first female president of the United States.
At the time, according to PBS, Trump laughed at a joke about Harris being a sex worker. He also claimed that Harris would be too “overwhelmed” with other male leaders if she were to become president. But just because MAGA critics are unsurprised by what he has since said about women in power, it’s not any easier to stomach.
