An Australian man and his dog had a rare, near-deadly encounter with a blue-ringed octopus. Jesse Donnison and his dog, Otto, were taking a stroll along the Sydney Harbour when they spotted what is known to be one of Australia's most venomous marine animals. What started a simple walk could have ended in a fatality.
Donnison said he spotted what looked like a dog toy floating in the water while walking with Otto along Blackwattle Bay. He then went to pick up what he thought was a ball to play fetch with his dog.
But it was definitely not a toy. Donnison initially thought the ball was covered in algae, but boy, was he wrong. When a tentacle popped out, he knew right then that it could only be one thing: the deadly blue-ringed octopus.

Donnison immediately dropped the deadly octopus, but he freaked out when Otto went to chase after it.
“I wasn’t so much scared as I was startled. I was expecting sea weed, so it was a bit of a surprise."
The blue-ringed octopus carries enough venom to kill 26 adult humans in a matter of mere minutes. Donnison is lucky that he and his dog escaped a near-fatal incident.
