President Donald Trump gave his State of the Union speech on February 24, and his family was in attendance. Photos of the Trump family have been circulating online, and a lot of people are pretty fixated on an unexpected detail: Barron Trump’s tie. Barron’s tie for the occasion was blue instead of Republican red, leading some to question whether he was actively trying to make a statement. And color aside, his tie looked pretty out of place for another reason as well.

Other people on X also shared photos of the Trump family, and people immediately had questions about Barron’s tie. “Why does Barron have on a blue tie?” one person questioned. It’s not even the first time that Barron has worn a blue tie, but people still wondered if it might mean something. “Was the short Blue Tie at the SOTU a statement?” someone questioned. And another person who was clearly suspicious wrote, “Barron wearing blue tie hmmm.”
Tabloids were among those who critiqued the fashion choice. Express claimed that the tie choice surprised people because they had imagined that Barron “would wear red to show solidarity with his father and the Republican Party.”
While the color red is typically associated with Republicans and blue is associated with Democrats, it’s not unheard of for Republicans to wear blue. As HuffPost pointed out, Vice President JD Vance also wore a blue tie for Trump’s State of the Union address, though his was a lighter, less Democrat-coded shade. Anyway, it seems safe to assume that Barron did not choose a blue tie to subtly communicate that he’s actually a Democrat who doesn’t support his father.

But the color of Barron’s tie wasn’t the only issue.
It stood out in photos for another reason, and some people actually sounded outraged over it. “Whoever tied Barron’s tie should be fired,” one person wrote in response to Ivanka’s photo. Although many people noticed that Barron’s tie looked too short, some wondered if it was just because of his height. “Barron’s tie looks short, but maybe he is too tall,” one person commented. Others argued that, surely, Barron should be able to find a tie that actually suits him. “All that money and Barron Trump can’t get a tie that’s long enough?” another person questioned.
Regardless of what the reason for his short tie was, many on social media agreed that he should get a new one, or maybe even get help from his older siblings. “Barron’s brothers have to help him with his tie length!” someone commented.
