Photos of model Brooks Nader’s family vacation have sparked a heated discussion online because she’s topless in them. And although going topless is already a controversial choice for women (depending on whom you ask), people were less offended by the fact that Brooks chose to free the nip and more offended by the fact that her father was there when she did.
The unconventional choice led to a wide range of comments, with some people claiming that it’s really not that weird to not wear a shirt and others insisting that a line must be drawn somewhere.
And many commenters argued that Brooks, 29, crossed that line.
Not by ditching her top, per se. But by ditching her top during a family vacation with her parents and sister. In photos circulating online, the family can be seen spending time on a boat in Sardinia, Italy. Though the model’s mom and sister both appeared to be fully covered by their swimwear, Brooks and her dad just wore bathing suit bottoms.
When @deuxmoi shared some of the vacation pics on Instagram (courtesy of @backgrid_usa), people had a lot to say in the comments. Many of them were totally appalled.
“Isn’t that… her DAD????” someone questioned. People could not understand why Brooks would feel compelled to do this, as it made them feel super uncomfortable. “This is beyond comprehension,” another commenter wrote. “Why would you go TOPLESS in front of your FATHER?!!!!!! I’m physically ill.”
Obviously, people have different habits and preferences, but a lot of commenters found this one far too unusual. “I would rather shave my eyebrows off for a full year than have my dad see me topless,” a third critic added.
“Can confirm I wouldn’t even allow my dad into the labor & delivery room while I was nursing,” a fourth wrote.
But some people argued it’s only weird if you make it weird.
“Guys they are literally just breasts,” someone wrote in Brooks’ defense. “It’s a chest.” And several people also argued that while Americans might find going topless pretty unusual, not every culture views it the same way. “This is completely normal in Spain, where I’m from,” one commenter said. “…It’s so normalized people around you don’t even look and women all ages do it.”
Someone else added, “Let’s normalize women doing what they want w their chest. It’s only taboo bc we as a society make it that way so weird that we do that.”
But again, people seemed more fixated on the fact that the model’s dad was in the photos with her. Going topless is one thing but… one commenter argued that “there is literally NO reason to have your tits out in front of your father,” while another person even wrote, “Free the nip: not weird. Free the nip in front of dad: weird af.”
Others argued that while the family was on vacation in Europe, they’re from Louisiana, where going topless is definitely not seen as the norm.
At the same time, some find the double standards exhausting.

“Stop tripping over women walking topless at the beach because judging them is straight-up hypocrisy,” one commenter argued. “Society totally normalizes guys going shirtless while freaking out over female bodies… the human body is just normal.” After all, Brooks’ dad was shirtless too, but no one seemed to notice or care because we’re used to seeing men without shirts.
“No one is trying to make it sexual, it’s just not normal,” someone else wrote. “Her whole family is covered up.” (Except her dad, of course).
“Sorry but there’s a time and place for nudity and imo it’s not with your family,” another commenter added.
Obviously, the vacation photos garnered a lot of criticism because people found them so “creepy” and “weird.” But hey, it’s their family vacation. “Despite this being cringe, I wish ppl could do s— in peace,” one person wrote in Brooks’ defense. “They’re on vacation. Leave them alone.”
