Shania Twain has been getting a lot of hate for the way she dressed while opening for Harry Styles during his residency tour shows at Wembley Stadium. When photos and videos of her performances started circulating online, numerous critics complained that, at age 60, Shania is too old to be wearing risqué outfits and trying to look sexy on stage.
People clearly already found her outfits too revealing, but the criticism escalated after an apparent wardrobe malfunction.

She was wearing a short, see-through dress, and when she bent down at one point during her set, the skirt rode up, exposing her undergarments. Tons of people on social media complained that they had no desire to see this.
“I didn’t need to see her crotch,” one critic wrote on X. Someone else wrote, “Why is she lifting her dress like that? Who wants to see her undies? And the legs spread. Really classless.”
Some of the critics said the outfit would be inappropriate for anyone, but a lot of them definitely made it about Shania’s age. One commenter called her an “old lady” who is desperately trying to look sexy at her age, and several people made jokes about her undergarments.
“Is that a diaper?” one of them wrote. “Nothing quite like flashing your bra and granny panties under a see-through dress,” another commenter added. A few of the naysayers accused Shania of seeking attention and “trying to stay relevant,” but hey, if that really was her goal, it worked, right? Because people can’t stop talking about her performances on social media.

They thought the wardrobe malfunction was embarrassing for her. And from their perspectives, it could have easily been avoided with a better outfit. “Whoever is dressing them hates them because what is this right here,” one person on X wrote in response to the wardrobe malfunction.
The footage also started circulating on TikTok, where people had similar complaints. “Dear Shania Twain’s stylist … YOU ARE FIRED!” someone else commented.
“Those are literally my grandma’s bloomers,” another commenter added. A fourth critic called footage of the wardrobe malfunction a “hard watch” and added, “I hate this for her.”
There are also a decent number of people who are tired of this criticism.

People have been talking about Shania’s outfits for some time now. They’ve made similar complaints about other pop artists who they think are “too old” to be wearing unconventional or revealing outfits or dancing in a way that they deem too sexualized, such as Madonna and Jennifer Lopez. Some of the critics who had an issue with Shania’s concert outfits even compared her to Madonna, who is obviously well-known for her provocative performances.
These kinds of comments are not uncommon, but there are also people who are exhausted by the way these naysayers won’t stop picking women apart and pitting them against each other. After all, not everyone has to enjoy Shania or Madonna’s performances. And plenty of people do enjoy them.
“I really hate seeing other women put women down,” one person wrote in Shania’s defense. “Like why? What does it solve? She’s gorgeous. If her outfit is not your taste…who really cares?”
