Fans Call Out Reporter For Asking Young Actress A Creepy Red Carpet Question About Leo DiCaprio

After the Los Angeles premiere for One Battle After Another, a “creepy” interview question started making the rounds on social media. At the premiere, a Variety reporter spoke to 25-year-old actress Chase Infiniti, who stars in the film alongside Leonardo DiCaprio and portrays his character’s daughter. A question the reporter asked her about the role made people extremely uncomfortable — and seemingly made the actress uncomfortable too.

According to Buzzfeed, a now-deleted clip shared by Variety shows the reporter asking Chase, “What’s it like calling Leonardo DiCaprio ‘Daddy?'” Chase was clearly taken aback and didn’t know how to respond to the question. After some hesitation, she said, “Well, umm, did not think that it would be something I would do.”

Reacting to the clip on social media, people slammed the reporter, Marc Malkin, for being “creepy.” One critic wrote, “Can u not ask her creepy questions about calling Leo ‘Daddy’? It’s mad creepy dude.”

A second person simply wrote, “What a weird question to ask.” Many critics also empathized with how Chase must’ve felt in that moment and noticed that she looked quite upset. Someone else responded, “No reason your journalist especially an old white one should be asking her these questions. This is Chase’s film debut and THIS is what you’re proud of asking?”

Another critic noticed “the obvious disappointment and confusion in her face, then the snap back into the moment to answer the question like a professional …”

Before the clip was deleted, some critics shared it on X to criticize the reporter for being “weird” and “inappropriate.” They also slammed the publication for sharing the video in spite of Chase’s obvious discomfort. “Insane to see how uncomfortable she is at this question and still post the clip anyway — nobody finds these ‘daddy’ questions cute! They’re always deeply awkward!” one person wrote.

Once Variety seemingly deleted the clip, people called the entertainment outlet out for that as well. In the other clip shared by the publication, Chase told the reporter that working with Leo “was a gift.” But in response, people questioned why the “creepy” interview question had been deleted. “Huh. wonder where is the other one video,” one person joked. In spite of the “inappropriate” question, people praised the actress for handling the situation with “poise, grace and elegance.”
