People have been baffled by Cheryl Hines for some time now. The Curb Your Enthusiasm actress has seemingly lost friends due to her husband Robert F. Kennedy Jr.’s politics, and she has stood by him even after his alleged affair with journalist Olivia Nuzzi. A lot of “lifelong Democrats” (as her husband previously described her) would presumably have an issue with their partners endorsing Donald Trump for president and later joining his cabinet. But Cheryl has, at least on some level, embraced being a MAGA wife — and a recent appearance makes that quite clear.
On Monday, December 1, Cheryl joined first lady Melania Trump and second lady Usha Vance at Joint Base Andrews to assemble care packages for service members and greet military families in partnership with the American Red Cross. Cheryl sported an American Flag sweater.
The following day, Olivia’s book came out.

Cheryl’s apparent commitment to MAGA wifedom is unexpected for several reasons. For one, her husband allegedly had an affair in 2024. The scandal has been in the news on a regular basis lately, as Olivia shared new details about it in her memoir, American Canto. Ahead of the book’s release, Olivia’s ex, Ryan Lizza, also shared explicit “poetry” that RFK Jr. allegedly penned for Olivia. Both Olivia and Ryan have claimed that RFK Jr. told her he wanted to impregnate her.
In August 2025, Cheryl told the Wall Street Journal that she doesn’t “think there’s any point to going through every rumor and headline to try to defend or explain it.” And although she didn’t comment on the affair specifically, she made it clear that she still trusts her husband. “Bobby and I talk about everything, so that’s how we move through everything, and we’re really good friends, and we trust each other,” she said at the time.
Her political stances also confuse people.
Previously, RFK Jr. said his wife was not exactly excited about him supporting Trump. “She is a lifelong Democrat, and the idea of me supporting Donald Trump was, like I said — it was something she would have never imagined, something that she never wanted in her life,” he said.
But since then, Cheryl has made some pretty interesting comments. She told Bill Maher, “The Republicans have been very kind to me from the beginning. Even from the beginning when Bobby was running as a Democrat, they weren’t mean. And they never have been. And I can’t say that for the Democrats.”
Cheryl knows that people don’t understand her marriage. “There’s extremes on both sides to Bobby — and being his wife — because there are a lot of people who absolutely love and support him,” she told Page Six. “And then there are people who, no matter what he accomplishes, are still going to criticize him.”
She also told the publication that she’s now “learning something new every day” due to her husband’s involvement in politics, which makes her “happy.”

People also have lots of questions about Usha’s marriage to Vice President JD Vance. And at the recent event, her appearance also made headlines because she was once again spotted without her wedding ring, per the Daily Beast. When the same thing happened in November, a spokesperson for the second lady said Usha is “a mother of three young children, who does a lot of dishes, gives lots of baths, and forgets her ring sometimes.” Some people did not buy this excuse, and the fact that it’s happened again isn’t exactly helping quell the divorce rumors.
