Steve Pricer and his patrol partner Joe Clark were a pair of police officers working in Huntington Beach, California. They had just been on the job a couple of years, but they both put their hearts into their work and sincerely hoped to help make a positive impact on their community.
One day, a senior named Gregory Jones noticed a suspicious vehicle in his neighborhood. It was an old Dodge Caravan and it had been parked on his street for several days with no one coming in or out. There were only eight houses on his street, so everyone pretty much knew one another’s cars.
Gregory decided to cautiously approach the van to see if he could make a note of anything that might tell him who the van belonged to. As he peered into the back window, he immediately noticed a young girl no older than 10 years old curled up asleep on one of the seats hugging a teddy bear.
At that moment, Gregory slowly backed away and knew he had to notify the authorities. He called the local police and told them that there was a minor completely on her own in a van that had been parked on his street for over a week.
Officer Pricer and Officer Clark happened to be the ones who received the radio call that led them to that van that day. When they arrived on the scene, they peered into the van and noticed that a woman was sleeping on the floor next to the young girl. They lightly tapped on the door to try and wake her up.

When the woman woke up and saw two police officers staring at her from outside the van, she immediately panicked. She pleaded with them to not take her daughter away from her as she was all she had. They quickly assured her that they were only there to assess the situation and help her in any way that they could.
