There are many celebrity interviews that are iconic. There are comedic moments, embarrassing moments, and even times when the celebrity being interviewed gets upset with the interviewer. Some of the best moments are when other celebrities get in on the interviews.
Madonna had just received the MTV award for Best Female Video of the Year. When she was doing an interview afterward talking about her achievement, she was interrupted by someone she was not on good terms with.
In the video, while attempting to focus her attention on the interviewer, Kurt Loder, Madonna starts getting things thrown at her on the balcony she's on — by none other than Courtney Love. It's pretty clear that Courtney is not in the best state of mind, based on the way she's acting.
Courtney then starts to head up to where Madonna is doing her interview. Kurt says, “Courtney’s coming up! Well come up!” Madonna then responds snidely, “Courtney Love is in dire need of attention right now. She’s throwing her compacts at me.”
When Courtney gets up there, she is slightly stumbling and slurring her words a little. This incident occurred not too long after the death of Courtney’s husband, Kurt Cobain. She was not in the best mental spot at the time.
The interview quickly turns chaotic, because instead of just saying “hi” and leaving, Courtney sits down and joins. Courtney quickly starts to attack Madonna with irony. Madonna handles the situation very well and attempts to laugh it off and change the subject.

After a few attempts by Madonna to get Courtney off certain subjects, Madonna’s manager quickly comes over and removes her client.
This situation allowed the press to quickly label the two women with typical stereotypes. Courtney Love was seen as “trashy” and Madonna as aloof and a diva — once again pitting two celebrity females against each other to get ratings.
In 1998, the two met again for a cover shoot for Rolling Stone magazine with Tina Turner. Madonna said that she found Courtney to be a lot calmer and acted more mature than before. Thankfully, it wasn’t another uncomfortable situation for the two of them.
