What to Know
While some people couldn’t get over President Donald Trump’s dancing and his strange rants about various topics during his recent Kennedy Center speech, others were more focused on his hair. We can all probably agree that Trump has a signature look, to the point that it’s immediately noticeable when he looks even a little bit different (like when he suddenly sported a black coat and red scarf just after he met New York City mayor Zohran Mamdani). This time, the style change that caught people’s attention was his apparent pink hair. On January 6, Trump spoke to House Republicans at the former John F. Kennedy Memorial Center for the Performing Arts, which now has Trump’s name on it too.
People started reacting to his hair online.
As photos and videos of his speech started circulating on social media, so did questions about Trump’s hair color. Because since when was his hair… pink? “Why the f— did #Trump dye his hair Pink? wtf is going on…” one person questioned on X. Someone else shared a clip of Trump’s speech and said, “You would think this was a Saturday Night Live skit… He’s quite bronze today and has pink-toned hair.”
Others mocked the style change, especially because Republicans often make fun of liberals with bright-colored hair. “Unedited photo of Donald and his new pink hair. Very progressive of him. What’s next? Pronouns? A nose ring? A human heart?” one person wrote.

Experts have weighed in.
Though Trump’s hair was noticeably different, it was probably not an intentional style choice. An obvious explanation could be the lighting. Hairstylist Gustav Fouche told the Daily Mail that “overhead or stage lighting (especially warmer-toned lights) can cast a pinkish or warm reflection onto light or silver hair.” Given that people have noticed Trump with pink-looking hair at other events in the past, this seems pretty likely.

But it also could be due to a mistake made when dyeing his hair, according to the stylist. “To achieve a silver or lighter blonde look, violet tones are often added to neutralize yellow,” Fouche explained to the publication. “However, if too much violet is used or it’s left on slightly too long, it can shift the color and make the hair appear pinkish rather than cool or neutral.”
And you would think that someone would make sure Trump’s hair was the right shade prior to any public appearances, but we also all saw the photos of him with apparent hand makeup that did not appear to match his skin tone, so you never know.
