Fox News Host Caught On A Hot Mic Criticizing WHCD Security Minutes Before The Shooting

Footage of questionable moments from the White House Correspondents’ Dinner has been circulating online for days now because of the shooting that took place at the event. A 31-year-old man named Cole Allen was identified as the shooting suspect and charged with attempting to assassinate President Donald Trump, among other charges. Even before the gunshots, a Fox News host pointed out that something seemed off about the security measures in place that night. The hot mic moment has gone viral on social media.

Fox News host Jimmy Failla was caught criticizing the overly lax security measures.

The hot mic moment occurred while he was working the event’s red carpet that night. Unaware that the moment was being recorded, Failla acted surprised by the security measures (or lack thereof). “Looks like they have like two random chicks holding the front door open,” he said in disbelief. And while it sounds pretty sexist, he later clarified that having men there holding the door wouldn’t have actually made it better.

“They’re not even trying anymore,” he continued. “I just mean like they’re not even like Secret Service people, it’s like the girls who work here are holding the door. Even if it was the guys, it wouldn’t even make it better.”

He suggested that the security he witnessed at the event was basically non-existent.

“They might as well put a doorstop in,” Failla added. “They put up a doorstop and a scarecrow: Don’t f–k with this guy.” The awkward hot mic moment has been circulating on social media along with numerous conspiracy theories about the shooting and clips of Trump administration officials evacuating the event space.

The clip has exacerbated a common but unfounded conspiracy theory that the shooting was staged. Reacting to the clip on X, one person sarcastically wrote, “Nothing suspicious about any of this. Nope. Nothing at all.”

Someone else argued that given that the president and other officials were in attendance, the alleged “weak security” seemed like either “gross incompetence or a setup.”

Conspiracy theories aside, people found the hot mic moment concerning. “This is a total failure to plan for the Trump administration’s own security by the Trump administration,” journalist and political commentator Grant Stern argued. “If they can’t even care for their own security, how are they supposed to care for America’s national security?”

Failla later reflected on the moment but also doubled down.

Speaking to Fox News host Trace Gallagher, Failla said, “We’re very shaken up, and I knew security was bad the minute they let my team in. I just didn’t know it was that bad,” per The New York Post. Days after the White House Correspondents’ Dinner, Failla actually joked about the event’s “lax” security in an X post.

On Tuesday, April 28, he shared his interview with CNN’s Brian Stelter. He captioned it with, “Security was SO LAX they let a CNN host near a FOX NEWS HOST.”

In response to that post, someone commented, “Hot Mic said it all…But at least someone is starting to tell the truth around @FoxNews so thank you Jimmy!!”
