George W. Bush Makes An Unexpected Cameo On ‘Today’ When Jenna FaceTimes Him On Air

Dads love a good joke and to tease their daughters. Former President George W. Bush is no exception to the rule. His daughter Jenna Bush Hager recently FaceTimed him from her “office,” Today With Hoda & Jenna, to get his opinion on her and Hoda Kotb’s live holiday performance of the new song “A Carefree Christmas.”

Former President Bush gave Jenna and Hoda some constructive criticism and joked around with them. Jenna was worried he wouldn’t answer at all because he doesn’t love being put on the spot. Her dad played along well.

The idea to call her dad came when Hoda asked Jenna if her family or friends had comments about her performance. Jenna told Hoda that her dad had sent her a text saying: “Hit the high notes like I taught you. Fine performance.” Hoda needed clarification on if her dad thought they did a good job or not.

“Should we try to FaceTime my dad?” Jenna asked. “He doesn’t usually like it when I put him on the spot like this, but what could go wrong?” Hoda encouraged her to try it just for fun. They got lucky because he answered. Jenna earlier stated he didn’t officially know they were on the air but he did know what time her show was on so he probably had a good idea.

Jenna asked him what he thought about the show and he said he was impressed especially with Cheryl Porter, their vocal coach. “What about us?” Jenna pressed.

“I thought you all were cute,” he stated. “I think your dance moves were well choreographed and I think the sound guy did a good job of making sure your voices were subdued.” They all had a good laugh.

“You were very good. It really was fun. Congratulations. It was lively and it’ll become a bestseller,” he concluded. Jenna then confirmed they were on live television and ended the call.
