The Golden Bachelor premiered on ABC on September 28, 2023. It was the first time the franchise focused on finding love in the senior years, and it was a ratings hit. America fell in love with Gerry Turner and was thrilled to watch him woo Theresa Nist. On January 4, 2024, Gerry and Theresa were married on a live television special.
Just three months later, the couple announced they are getting a divorce. They struggled to figure out the logistics of their living situation as both wanted to be close to their kids and grandchildren. Theresa took to Instagram three days after the end of her marriage was announced. Fellow former Golden Bachelor contestant April Kirkwood commented, saying essentially “I told you so.” Other users on the site were not too pleased with April.
Theresa's Instagram post included a lengthy caption thanking everyone for their support. She added a positive Dr. Seuss quote about being happy even in hard times. April decided to chime in. "I wish you the very best. I truly tried to tell you but this was your lesson to experience. Much love!" she commented.
Fellow Instagram users let April have it. One user stated "the 'I told you so’ comment shows a complete lack of class.”
Another asked “why you so BITTER?”
One simply told her to “ZIP IT!”

April appears to have since realized how her statement was hurtful and not helpful. The 66-year-old therapist returned to the comments section and expressed regret. "I would like to publicly apologize for my error in judgment," she began. "I sincerely meant no ill will. I wish all women only peace and power to be their best selves. This was not one for me. Much love and gratitude for understanding."
