Gwyneth Paltrow Explains Her Political Views And Says Her Husband Thinks She’s A Republican

Gwyneth Paltrow just opened up about her political beliefs, and let’s just say people are disappointed, but not surprised. The Goop founder, 53, explained that her “progressive” husband thinks she’s a Republican, though she doesn’t identify that way. She later said she is probably “an independent.” One comment she made really struck a nerve on social media because people found it deeply out of touch: “I don’t feel anything right now.”

Gwyneth spoke about engaging “in more dialogue” with people who have differing opinions.

The topic came up on a recent episode of her Goop podcast. She spoke to guest Trae Stephens, co-founder of AI defense company Anduril. Gwyneth noted that political discussions can get “so charged” in the United States. Both Trae and Gwyneth agreed that people should be engaging in respectful dialogue.

Gwyneth then mentioned her husband, Brad Falchuk, who is apparently more progressive than she is. “I noticed with my own husband, too, who’s the best person ever in the world,” she said. “And he’s so progressive. He has such a sweet heart and he wants to, like, make sure everybody’s looked after.”

She mentioned that she sometimes feels like he needs to expose himself to additional perspectives, USA Today reported. “It is very triggering for people,” she continued. “It’s become so binary, I think. And I am trying to, in my journey through being an American right now, trying to, I don’t know, I guess sort of weave together lots of different points of view, and also to get out of that place of righteousness and anger and fear.”

Meanwhile, her husband thinks she’s a Republican.

She attempted to explain what her political views actually are. While they were not exactly clear, her description was, in some ways, exactly what people would expect from her. “I mean, I’m pretty centrist, and my husband thinks I’m a Republican, which I’m not a Republican,” she said on the podcast. “I mean, I don’t feel anything right now, to be totally honest with you. I feel like I’m completely an independent.”

On social media, a lot of people appeared to side with Gwyneth’s husband and took the “centrist” label to mean that Gwyneth is basically a Republican or MAGA-aligned. “How are ppl not so embarrassed to say they are a centrist?” one critic wrote on Reddit. “What does that even mean?”

“It means either they’re too rich to care, or too ashamed to admit they’re Maga and part of the problem,” someone else wrote back. Based on how Gwyneth described herself, another critic concluded, “She’s a MAHA republican and not even a centrist. This her trying to make herself sound more palatable.”

However, if Gwyneth really was trying to come across as more “palatable,” it did not appear to work. “If your husband thinks you’re a republican in this day and age… Maybe she should have kept that to herself,” a commenter added.

Aside from that, the whole “I don’t feel anything” part felt “wild” to people.

Because she doesn’t “feel anything” about what, exactly? “Oh so she… doesn’t mind what Trump is doing is what she is saying,” a critic commented. People were not shocked by her “privilege,” but still couldn’t quite fathom how she felt so comfortable with her apparent apathy. “So much s— going on in the world, in our country, and you have NO feeling toward any of it?” someone questioned.

“Her wealth insulates her from any of the problems that 99% of the population has to deal with,” another critic added. “Must be nice to not be bothered by anything happening to us poors,” someone else wrote.
