The Met Gala occurs every year on the first Monday of May. It is a fundraiser for the museum’s Costume Institute. The exclusive star-studded event often gets criticized for its over-the-top and excessive nature. Some believe that while children are starving in war-torn areas that celebrities shouldn’t be wearing ballgowns and prancing around.
Jessica Biel stirred things up by posting a video of how she gets ready for the big event. She took a bath with 20 pounds of Epsom salts. On Thursday, May 17, 2024, she appeared on The View and defended her actions.
"It's just a little hack, like a little red carpet hack. I'm getting off a plane, relaxing," she mused. It helps her get into the zone for the big event.
The View Cohost Sunny Hostin wanted to know more. "Does it like, shrink your skin in or something?" she asked. It is a valid question.

Jessica was happy to share her experience. "It’s amazing," she responded. "And it gives you magnesium inside your body. I slept really well, I woke up, I felt really good, I felt calm. It's kind of an adrenaline, kind of night. It's a lot of exciting people."
The public was aware of Jessica’s beauty hack because she posted about it on TikTok on May 6, 2024. This was the night before the big event. Part of her routine was soaking in 20 pounds of Epsom salts. For context, the bag of Dr. Teal's Epsom salts calls for 2 cups of the product in a bath.
Jessica explained her thought process to People. "Epsom salt baths is a tool I love and use for all things, after traveling, sore muscles, of course, magnesium, absolutely, to sleep well, to de-stress, to, you know, just feel confident in your body to go to a big event like the Met Ball, which is what I was utilizing it for," she stated.
Jessica faced backlash in the comment section of her TikTok. Many thought she was out of touch.
“Girl, cost of living doesn't even afford us table salt these days let alone bags of Epsom Salts ,” one user wrote.
“Sometimes I put in 1 whole bag and I think I’m WILD,” wrote another.
Despite the criticism, Jessica did look lovely at the gala. Her pink floor-length gown was designed by Tamara Ralph Couture. The final product took 320 hours to create.
The gown was beautiful and helped accentuate Jessica’s accessories. "The look was really built around the Cartier necklace and earrings and ring I was wearing. The idea was playful fairy garden nymph-like character," she explained on The View. "It just felt fun and happy and it made me feel, I don’t know, just really good."
