‘The View’ Cast Reveals They Excluded Whoopi From Their Group Chat

When it comes to group chats, some love using them to communicate with their friends and family — and some have the chats muted. For Whoopi Goldberg, muting the chat is not enough; she just doesn't want to be there.

On The View, on January 29, 2024, Whoopi's opinions on group chats came to light when she discussed "splinter groups" with her cohosts. With "splinter groups," a group breaks away from a larger group to create a smaller group chat, excluding some people from it. Sara Haines admitted that she has "splinter groups" for her family, but not with her friends.

Whoopi, however, does not want to be a part of a group chat — and she made her stance clear. The conversation began with Alyssa Farah Griffin wondering if there was a cohost group chat that she was excluded from.

“Is there a host text thread that I’ve been excluded from? Because I feel like there might be," she wondered. Sunny Hostin said there used to be one.

Whoopi was not an enthusiastic member of that group chat — in fact, she tried to remove herself on more than one occasion. “I feel like Michael Corleone. Because I take myself off the group text… and then I’m boom, back! And I’m like, 'What the,'” Whoopi said.

Sunny explained that although Whoopi removed herself from the chats, Joy Behar kept adding her again.

Sara added that sometimes she wanted to remove herself as well because "you guys go into royal weddings and it goes back [and forth]."

"I want to be like, ‘Make [a] Whoopi of me,’ like, ‘Get me off this chain,’" she admitted.

Cohost Ana Navarro told Whoopi that she could "silence" the chat instead of removing herself from it.

“Silencing y’all does not mean not being part of it,” Whoopi responded. "I don’t care. I don’t care what you’re upset about. It’s the weekend!”

Ana admitted that having multiple group chats does come with some drawbacks. Sometimes you might accidentally send a message to the wrong group, she pointed out.

"That’s why I’m not on all of that stuff," Whoopi responded. "Because I know who I’m texting. If I need to talk to you, I’ll talk to you."

At the end of the day, Whoopi is a busy person — she explained that she'll say something when she has something to say, but "I don’t just be sending y’all stuff."

“I don’t just be sending y’all stuff! I’m busy! I’m busy, you know,” she emphasized.
