Kate Middleton participated in a game of wheelchair rugby to show off her skills. She visited Hull, in northeastern England, on October 5, 2023, to highlight inclusivity of the sport. She also participated in a training session that was run by members belonging to the World Cup-winning England Wheelchair Rugby League squad.
The Princess of Wales used the opportunity to show the impact the Disability Rugby League has on those who take part in the sport. She also wanted to show how sport can help address inequalities while still giving people a space to develop their skills and fitness.
In 2022, Kate was given the roles of patron of the England Rugby Football League and the Rugby Football Union, which formerly belonged to Prince Harry before he stepped down from his royal duties. Her outing was a part of the duties that come with her role.
During the outing, members of Hull FC’s Wheelchair, Physical Disability and Learning Disability Rugby League teams participated in non-competitive matches and training skills sessions. As part of training in the different forms of Disability Rugby League, students from Hull FC’s Centre of Excellence also played.
