Kate Middleton Sits Out Royal Singapore Visit For A Very Important Family Reason

On Sunday, November 5, 2023, Prince William traveled to Singapore on royal business. Kate Middleton did not join him because Prince George is taking his first set of exams and she wanted to be there to support him through them. Even royals have to take tests in school.

The Prince of Wales is scheduled to attend the Earthshot Prize awards ceremony and a summit for his United for Wildlife program. He will also meet with Singapore President Tharman Shanmugaratnam and Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong. It will be an eventful four-day trip.

On November 6, William explained why Kate was not with him. “Catherine is very sorry she can’t be here,” he stated. “She is helping George through his first set of major exams.”

Prince William created the Earthshot Prize in 2020 and plans to award it through 2030. It celebrates and promotes inventive solutions to environmental challenges. This is the first time Kate will not be attending the Earthshot Prize ceremony. She attended the first two events held in London and Boston.

William and Kate visited Singapore 11 years ago for the late Queen Elizabeth. It was her Diamond Jubilee year. William fondly recalled the trip as a “memorable one.”

Prince William’s United for Wildlife foundation was created in 2014. It aims to end the illegal wildlife trade that is threatening important species, such as rhinos, with extinction. “Namibia, home to the largest number of black rhinos in the world, saw a devastating 93% increase in rhino poaching from 2021 to 2022,” William explained.

William has ideas for the solutions to this poaching problem. "We know where the animals are being poached; we know the routes through which they are illegally transported; we know the financial systems that criminal networks are exploiting to finance their trade; and we know the main markets that are fueling the demand for it," he stated.

He urged everyone in attendance to do their part. “Let’s use this summit to renew our collective determination to defeat the criminal gangs who inflict such unnecessary environmental and human loss," he said. "This is a battle that can and must be won.”
