About a year after retirement, Pat Sajak is reminding his daughter Maggie that she doesn’t have to work all the time. In a lighthearted clip shared on Instagram, Maggie Sajak, who works as the social correspondent for Wheel of Fortune, started asking her dad questions about his game show career.
Pat chose to not engage with the interview-style questions. “So, did you always know that you wanted to be a game show host?” Maggie asked her dad while they were in a golf cart. Pat, clearly embracing retirement, responded with, “Maggie, just because we’re in a golf cart, you don’t have to interview me. You’re not at work. We’re actually golfing.”
Still, Maggie had more questions for her father. “OK, but while we’re on the topic, what was your first job in the game show industry?” she asked him. Clearly tired of the questions, Pat sighed. Maggie captioned the humorous post with, “Habit, sorry😉🛺.”
In the comments, Wheel of Fortune fans reacted to the funny father-daughter moment. While many fans noted that they still miss seeing Pat on the show, others reminded Maggie that she should let her father enjoy retirement. “Let him enjoy retirement Maggie😂We miss you Pat❤️,” one fan commented on the post.
Though Pat appeared to be embracing retired life in that particular clip, he hasn’t exactly stopped working entirely. Shortly after retiring from Wheel of Fortune, he hosted season five of Celebrity Wheel of Fortune. He’s also set to star in a play at The Hawaii Theatre in Honolulu, titled Prescription: Murder. According to People, Pat will star in the play from July 31 to August 10, 2025.
The beloved game show host announced his retirement from Wheel of Fortune in June 2023. He officially retired about a year later. At first, Pat’s retirement was hard on his longtime cohost, Vanna White. In an emotional farewell for Pat, Vanna said, “When I first started, I was so green.” She added, “You made me so comfortable, and made me so confident, Pat. You made me who I am. You really did.”
She described their time on the show together as an “incredible and unforgettable journey” and said she “enjoyed every minute of it.”
