Pro Surfer Taught Her 80-Year-Old Grandma To Ride The Waves In Fiji: ‘It’s Never Too Late’

An adventurous grandma made her professional surfer granddaughter’s day, when she said yes to learning to ride the waves. Brisa Hennessy, a Costa Rican surfing pro, took her grandma, Donna Holmes, out on the water on a trip to Fiji to celebrate her 80th birthday. It’s never too late to learn something new.

Brisa was so proud of her grandma. The duo practiced on land before getting in the water. Brisa and Donna shared a board. Brisa caught the whole thing on video and it is just so heartwarming.

“This is 80!!!! It’s never too late to catch a wave, it’s never too late. 🙂 So special sharing my happy place with my grandma. ,” Brisa captioned the video.

Brisa described her grandma as a “firecracker, no-hold-back, adventure-seeker, arms- and hearts-wide-open lady" on Good Morning America. She says she stays active by doing yoga and line dancing.

You can see Donna’s sense of humor and zest for life on the video. “What’s your initial thoughts?” Brisa asks. "I’m gonna die,” Donna jokes. “No, I’m going to do fine.”

Donna and Brisa had a wonderful day together. "It was a picture-perfect day, the sun was out, there was no wind and it was small and glassy conditions," Brisa gushed. "I acted like it was spontaneous but the real reason I wanted her to come to Fiji was to surf with me."
