As more and more people are being outed for their moral shortcomings, fans can rest assured that Tom Hanks has earned his "nice guy" reputation. His wife, Rita Wilson, took to Instagram to defend her husband and herself from a viral photo from the Asteroid City Cannes premiere that was taken the wrong way.
In this photo, Rita and Tom look like they are yelling and scolding a poor film festival employee. The truth is actually much more tame. They could not hear his instructions because it was so loud and were trying to clarify with hand gestures. It is a good reminder that things are not always what they seem and that people should not be so quick to jump to conclusions.
On her Instagram stories, Rita shared an article that misrepresented the situation, and she set the record straight.
“This is called I can’t hear you. People are screaming. What did you say? Where are we supposed to go?” she explains.
Rita is not naive after a lifetime in Hollywood, and she understands how the world works. “But that doesn’t sell stories!” she quips. “Nice try. Go see Asteroid City!”

It features a large ensemble cast of many Hollywood favorites, including Jason Schwartzman, Scarlett Johansson, Bryan Cranston, Edward Norton, and more. The quirky plot centers around a 1955 Junior Stargazer convention that takes place in a fictional American desert town.
Tom and Rita have been married since 1988 and recently celebrated their 35th wedding anniversary. They share two sons, Chet and Truman. Tom also shares two children, Colin and Elizabeth, with ex-wife Samantha Lewes.
