Robin Williams would've been 73 years old on July 21, 2024, and his son Zachary Pym Williams shared a heartfelt message about him that day. Zak, 41, previously revealed that he struggled with depression after losing his dad nearly 10 years ago, in 2014. He is now a mental health advocate.
On Sunday, July 21, he took to Instagram to share a black and white photo of his late father, Robin Williams.
"Dad, on what would be your 73rd birthday, I remember you for all the hope and joy you brought to the world," Zak captioned his post. "There's not a week that goes by without someone sharing with me how you helped them through a dark time or a rough patch."
Robin died by suicide at age 63 on August 11, 2014. After his death, his family learned that he had been struggling with Lewy body dementia, per CNN. Prior to his death, in May 2014, Robin was misdiagnosed with Parkinson’s disease.
People with Lewy body dementia might experience hallucinations, cognitive issues like memory loss, depression, movement disorders, and sleeping problems, per Mayo Clinic. Robin's widow, Susan Schneider Williams, previously said that the disease impacted Robin's mood, personality, movement, sleep and more.
In Zak's post on his father's birthday, he wrote, "I'm so grateful and proud to be your son. Love you forever."

Zak also shared an image of his late father on Father's Day, writing, "On this tenth Father's Day without you, I'm remembering your incredible thoughtfulness and compassion for others."
"Thank you for showing me what it truly means to be unconditionally loving and kind," he continued. "I miss you and love you today and every day."
Last year, on what would've been Robin's 72nd birthday, Zak recalled "that look [he'd] give."
"That look with a mischievous, loving grin that your friends and loved ones knew so well," Zak explained. "Joyous and curious and wondrous."
