Shannen Doherty is fighting for her life. She was first diagnosed with breast cancer in 2015. In 2023, she shared the cancer spread to her brain and bones.
One of the ways Shannen is dealing with the physical and psychological stresses of her cancer journey is getting her affairs in order. The Beverly Hills, 90210 actress is downsizing and using the money to fund bucket list trips and experiences. She wants to spend more time with her mom. She opened up about this on her podcast, Let’s Be Clear With Shannen Doherty, on an episode that dropped on April 1, 2024.
Shannen’s cancer is classified as stage 4 breast cancer. She worries about leaving her mother, Rose Elizabeth Doherty, behind. She wants to spend more time with her and make sure she is taken care of. This was her inspiration to downsize.
Downsizing will help “make things clean” according to Shannen. She and her mom recently took a bucket list trip to Italy. Shannen wants more memories like this.

Shannen loves to collect antique furniture. “I’ve accumulated too much crap,” she confessed. “Do I need to have three dining room tables? The answer is no, none of us really need all the stuff that we have, and we could all do with a little bit of downsizing and not be a hoarder, which I was becoming with all my furniture.”
Shannen came to this realization when she was selling her Tennessee home. She realized she had “four storage units filled with furniture.” She didn’t want her mom to have to deal with them when she dies.
Selling her Tennessee home was a hard decision to make. It made her feel like she was “throwing in the towel” on her cancer battle. She had dreamed of creating an animal rescue, as well.
Shannen grieved the loss of the home and her dreams. She then reframed her mindset. She decided she would use the money she received from selling the items to fund more bucket list items. She would spend more time with her mom and continue to work with established rescue organizations.
“I get to take my mom on vacations because I’ll have all this extra money lying around, and I’m not digging into the money in my savings that’s going to make sure everybody in my life is taken care of once I’m dead,” Shannen explained. She wants to make sure she leaves a legacy behind for her mom and her loved ones.
Shannen also wants to continue to make the most of the time she has left. “I’m cleaning stuff up so I can have a better quality of life,” she explained. She wants to live her life to the fullest.
Shannen has thought about her funeral. She wants it to be a celebration of her life and a “lovefest.” She is OK with her fans being a part of it.
“I don’t mind my fans showing up,” she stated. “Those are the people who have supported me my entire life and my career. And I love them.”
