Former NFL star Shaun Alexander recently revealed that he and his wife, Valerie Alexander, are expecting their 14th child together. The former running back, 48, shared the news during an appearance on Kay Adams’ Up & Adams show on Thursday, September 25.
“We’re just now starting to tell people,” he said. “But number 14 is in the belly.” And while people were happy for him, they also had questions, like, “In this economy?” and “Why so many?” Unsurprisingly, some people also compared Shaun to other famous men who have lots of children, like Nick Cannon and Elon Musk.
But unlike Nick and Elon, Shaun welcomed all of his children with his wife, whom he married in 2002. Since tying the knot, they’ve welcomed 10 daughters and three sons: Trinity, Eden, Joseph, Justus, Temple, Honor, Jedidiah, Torah, Eternity, Hosanna, Hope and Judea. Tragically, their daughter Torah died when she was only two months old, according to E News. Their oldest child is now 22 years old.

Shaun’s wife also shared the news via Instagram on September 25. “I am so excited about our newest little one, arriving 2/17/2026!!” Valerie wrote. “Every child is a miracle, a blessing, and a gift!! We thank God for each of our children and count them as true treasures!!”
Though many people congratulated the family after they shared the exciting baby news, some people also questioned whether Shaun and his wife are trying to complete an entire football team. The former football player has previously spoken about how much he loves being a dad. In June 2019, he said, “I have received a lot of awards, a lot of accolades, and a lot of fame in my life. But my greatest title is being a father.”
“Bro about to be able to field a whole football team,” one person reacted on X. Another person said the family could have “7 on 7 games every weekend.”
Valerie regularly shares updates about their family on social media. In a Mother’s Day post, she opened up about how being a mom to 13 children helped her understand her own mother better. “It’s not until now…having had 13 kids, married for over 23 years, and almost 46 years old, that I truly understand who my mom was!” she wrote. She described her mom as “a stability for our family, a seed of peace, a bridge, a faith infuser, an anchor, an often emptied out vessel, a helper, a maintainer, a lover, a motivator, and a hero.”
She continued with, “Sometimes…what mothers do, won’t be fully known or understood, until decades later or maybe never…But….Mom…I see you now…I feel you now….I get you now…”
