Higher education is a wonderful way to get ahead in life, but it comes with a hefty price tag. Many find themselves going into massive debt to better themselves. One TikTok user came up with a unique way to avoid this. She has her mother to thank for it all.
Jayda Peets posted about the situation on TikTok. Her initial post made it seem like all she had to do was call the dean of her law school to ask for a full-ride scholarship. The real story has a couple more steps to it. Her mother was her inspiration though, because she was the one encouraging Jayda to make the scary phone call.
Jayda’s first post used the popular Kardashian audio with Kris Jenner advising Kim to just call Taylor Swift up. This is in reference to the famous feud between Taylor and Kim's ex-husband, Kanye West.
Jayda overlaid text saying “when my mom told me to literally just call the dean of my law school and ask for a full-ride scholarship and she actually said yes.” Most videos using this audio highlighted the ridiculous advice parents give children, but Jayda’s mom came through.
Jayda published additional story posts once her initial one went viral. She explained that before applying to the school, she had visited multiple times. She even organized a group tour with 15 people, which helped her get to know the admissions staff. She had insider’s knowledge about a scholarship that was not widely publicized and asked to be considered for it. After getting accepted into the law school, she hoped to hear back about the opportunity. When she did not, her mom told her to call the dean.

“I thought that was crazy, but whatever,” Jayda recalled but she did it anyway. The call with the dean did not go as smoothly as she would have hoped. “She was really iffy on the call, so I figured I didn’t get it. She said, ‘Let me call you back in five minutes,’” Jayda went on to say.
Well, Jayda must have done something right because the dean ended up offering it to her, forever changing the course of her life. This is a good reminder that it never hurts to ask.
