Donald Trump Makes Awkward, Unsolicited Comment About JD Vance’s Weight

Leave it to President Donald Trump to make unsolicited comments about the way people look. Often, Trump’s comments about how “hot” or muscular people are come across as creepy, unhinged, or, at the very least, inappropriate. Because who asked him, anyway? Besides, many critics have pointed out that it doesn’t make sense for Trump, of all people, to evaluate people based on their hotness or their weight, but clearly, he doesn’t see any problem with it.

Most recently, Trump made a pretty awkward comment about Vice President JD Vance, and people aren’t sure what to think.

He acted like Vance was difficult to find in a crowd.

During a White House Easter lunch, President Trump commented on Vice President JD Vance’s weight loss, joking that he had been looking for a “heavyset gentleman” but instead found him looking like a “perfect specimen.”

While speaking at an Easter event, Trump scanned the audience for Vance, but acted like he couldn’t find him anywhere. When he finally identified him in the crowd, he acted like it was hard to find him because he looks different now. As some critics on social media pointed out, doesn’t Trump see Vance all the time? But anyway, according to Trump, he was looking for a past version of Vance in the audience that day.

“Is JD here? Where’s JD?” Trump asked, his eyes scanning the room. Eventually, he spotted him, smiled, and said, “Oh, JD! He’s lost weight. He got a little thinner. I’m looking for a heavyset gentleman, and now I find a perfect-looking specimen.” Whatever that means.

People on social media could not figure out what he meant, but they found it creepy nonetheless.

Of course, many critics felt that it was totally unnecessary for Trump to make this comment in the first place. But they also couldn’t figure out why he focused on Vance’s weight loss and described him as “a perfect-looking specimen.”

Reacting to a clip of the weird comment on X, one critic wrote, “Can’t tell if he’s jealous, hitting on him, or mad that the women he surrounds himself with might find another man more attractive.” Someone else said, “Wtf this even mean? Either way it sounds creepy.”

Several critics pointed out how Trump is always commenting on people’s bodies, for some reason. He previously made strange comments about White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt’s lips, and more recently, he wrote about how Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents have such large, hard muscles. “He’s so obsessed with men’s bodies,” another critic on X pointed out.

“president is calling his vice fat in public…” someone else said. And it might not be the first time he’s done so. Previously, when talking about drugs like Ozempic, Trump told a story about his “fat” friend. Vance felt the need to interject and say that he was not the “fat” friend Trump was referring to, suggesting that he might be used to Trump’s unsolicited comments about his body.

At the same time, some people found it kind of funny.

It’s definitely a strange thing to say, and people were pretty divided when it comes to what Trump actually meant by the comment. Some saw it as evidence that Trump doesn’t respect Vance. Others saw it as a possible sign of dementia, given that Trump’s comments seem increasingly unhinged lately.

But a few people actually found it kind of humorous. For others, it felt reminiscent of something a well-meaning but offensive relative might say as a (backhanded) compliment. Even some social media users who claim to support Trump thought he should’ve kept this observation to himself.
